21/08 10:37 - Campaign publicizing the social problems of mass media employees
Journalists’ Trade Union (JuHI) started implementation of a program with multiple phases on provision of social rights to employees functioning in mass media with the financial support of Open Society Institute-Support Fund (SOROS).
 

21/08 10:34 - Journalists are among the poor provided levels of the nation
80 percent of journalists have no flats and 85 percent of journalists can’t formalize their labor relations at the editorials they currently work. Despite priority given problems in Azerbaijan press is the improvement of the legislation base and the problem of pressure towards the mass media, weakness of economical base of mass media and due to it the severe social-economic state of journalists is not less important than the above mentioned ones.
 

21/08 10:29 - CONCEPTION ON STATE SUPPORT TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF MASS MEDIA” WAS APPROVED
Conception on State Support to the Development of Mass Media” was approved by Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on July 31st, 2008. Various forms of State support to the development of mass media were reviewed in the Conception: methodical, organizational-technical, consultative, financial and so on.

International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) jointly with Azerbaijan Press Council conducted interview among the mass media employees on provision of social-economic needs of journalists. In total 300 mass media employees were approached for interviewing.
 

21/08 10:28 - Ways of resolving the journalists’ social problems were investigated
Journalists’ Trade Union (JuHI) held a round table on “Reasons causing the journalists social problems and surveying the ways of their eradication”. The round table was conducted within the frame of the Project “Preparation of the mechanism on protection of journalists’ social rights” realized by the financial support of Open Society Institute-Support Fund (SOROS) on June 01st 2008-01 December, 2008.

Ilham Aliyev, President of the Azerbaijan Republic signed a pardon Decree on December 28, 2007. Among the pardoners there are five journalists. They are:

Grave Crimes Court‘s sentence announced on October 30, 2007 on Eynulla Fatullayev’s, the founder and Chief-editor of “Realny Azerbayjan" and "Gundalik Azerbayjan" newspapers’ eight-and-a-half years imprisonment was met with protest in journalist camp, public and political spheres.

In accordance with the court judgment the jail period of the collaborator of “Bizim Yol” newspaper Mushfig Houseynli, kept at Bayil Investigation Isolator #1 was prolonged for 3 months.
 

23/10 12:30 - EDITORIAL STAFF OF “YENI MUSAVAT” NEWSPAPER IS CONCERNED WITH ITS COLLABORATOR’S PROSECUTION
The editorial office of “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper addressed a letter to Minister of National Security (MNS) Mr. Eldar Mahmudov asking him to ensure the safety of Hakimeldostu Mehdiyev, the correspondent of “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper on Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
 

23/10 12:30 - EYNULLA FATULLAYEV’S TRIAL CONTINUES
The trial for “Gundalik Azerbayjan” and “Realny Azerbayjan” newspapers’ editor-in-chief Eynulla Fatullayev continues with the testimonies at the Grave Crimes Court. Before the trial started E. Fatullayev asked for water and newspaper, but the inspectors didn’t pay attention to his request. Speaking about the process, initially Shamkhal Houseynov, distributor of “Gundalik Azerbayjan” and “Realny Azerbayjan” newspapers and Emin Novrouzov, Coordinator on distribution gave testimonies.
 

28/06 18:14 - Court process on “Baki Khabar” Newspaper will be held
According to the information given by Aydin Gouliyev, Chief-Editor of “Baki Khabar” there will be held the court process led under Alim Namazov’s chairmanship on July 2, at 15:00 at Sabayel Regional Court, Baku city. A. Gouliyev told that the continued activity of the newspaper will depend on the verdict of the Court.
 

28/06 18:11 - The Ministry of Internal affairs investigates the action held on June 14
Based on information, the Azerbaijani journalists’ protest match planned to be held on June 14 was forcibly demolished by police. The participants of the action intended to criticize the Government attacks and stop the pressing acts on press. The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that the policemen who used force during the action of June 14 would be punished. There are on-going investigations for this purpose.
 

28/06 18:09 - Chief-Editor of “Mukhalifet” Newspaper suffers from heartache
Rashid Hajily, Director of media Rights Institute, advocate visiting Rovshan Kabirly, Chief-editor of “Mukhalifet “ newspaper and Yashar Aghazade, correspondent of the same newspaper being kept at Bayil Investigation Cell # 1 as information has it that Rovshan Kabirly suffers from heartache. He told that despite the efforts by the prisoners to get the opposition newspapers/publications, they weren’t given such an opportunity.
 

28/06 18:00 - Imprisoned journalists are wanted to be free
At present time, 7 journalists are in jail. Most of them are known as the journalists who criticize the Government and therefore there is widespread opinion that they all were arrested due to the Governmental order.
