CASCFEN’s activity was sufficiently successful in the past years. In 2004 it was awarded a “Freedom Forum” prize by the International Press Institute. Activity inside the country: JuHI's main goal is to protect the social-economic and labour rights of the people working in mass media as to its own regulations, also to help developing the freedom of expression and press freedom. In order to reach this goal JuHI is holding seminars and conferences and interferes to solve the conflicts inside the mass media when needed. With US Embassy's financial assistance and JuHI's organizational activities a seminar was held under the theme of ”Mass media and Human Rights" in 1998. In 2001 with Eurasia Fund’s financial assistance and JuHI's organizational activities, a seminar was held under the theme of “Labour Legislation and protection of Mass media workers’ labour rights”. In each seminar lasted 6 months adequate number of journalists participated from 25 mass media. They were enlightened about the labour legislation and were given a certificate. JuHI continued its activity in this sphere in 2003-2005. In may and august, 2005 JuHi realized “practical help for the Trade Union activists” programme among the mass media workers in Azerbaijan regions with the financial assistance of the “Open Society Institute Assistance Fund” – “Soros”. The main objective of the programme lasting from 05.01.2005 to 08.01.2005 was to stimulate the establishment of free, independent trade unions in Azerbaijan. As a result, primary trade union organizations have been established in two of Azerbaijan’s four regions. We are planning to establish primary organizations in all of Azerbaijan regions till the end of this year. JuHI always tried hard to investigate and solve all the appeals came about the labour conflicts. That's why a special department is founded inside JuHI to deal with these appeals in march, 2003. 2003 was the year of elections in Azerbaijan. It became a tradition that at the eve of every election a persecution campaign against the free media and the journalists for free expression is carried out by the government. Such kind of events took place in presidential elections in 2003. As the result of the persecution 3 well-known opposition newspapers had to stop their activity for some time and 4 editorial offices forever. As a result 80 journalists and 200 mass media worker with the technical staff were unemployed. With the direct intervention of JuHI 30 of these journalists were provided with a job. Besides, nearly 70 journalists were arrested when preparing reportage on the protest action of opposition. JuHI applied to the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX) to help to free them. The representatives of these organizations came to Azerbaijan. As the result journalists were discharged. Once a month since 2004, organization's report is spread in order to enlighten the people about the social-economic processes. During election processes JuHi realized several programmes for tanning habits of preparing the materials from process, preventing from limiting the activity of journalist writing about election process. In 2003 Press Election Center was founded for carrying on operative productive work in this field in AJK this was employed Yadigar Mammadli, the chief of GJL and Mushfig Alasgarli, the chief of JuHi. The activity was successful. The seminars were held with journalists and journalist disturbing rights were given a help. Later juHi continued the activity in Election Monitoring Center (EMC) in 2004-2005 years the representative of JuHi lead the media programme of EMC. JuHI acted with an initiative to bring into the connection the activity of all the journalist organizations in the country, to help protect and develop the freedom of expression and as a result succeeded in establishing Azerbaijan journalists Confederation (AJK- www.ajk.org) in January, 2001. At present 11 journalist organizations join AJK. JuHI representative governs AJK's executive board. At present JuHI is engaged in strengthening its interior structure, establishing of primary organizations in regions, and also spreading information about the ways of setting up free, independent trade unions. And it sets up additional responsibility in front of JuHi. However Journalist Trade Union must not be engaged in the construction of local trade organizations, at the same time it must carry on enlightening work in the field of free trade union in the whole country and it must spread its own experience in other sphere. The main responsibility falls on JuHi being the only independent trade union in the country either to spread information about the ways of setting up free, independent trade unions or to estimate the processes taking place in the social-economic life of the country and the citizens in sphere of enlightening. JuHi is carrying on wide enlighted work for succeeding in this sphere. At present JuHi realized the edition of the newsraper “Hamkarlar” and the materials are printing on its pages.
